Construction begins on BolognaFiere’s new 12,000 sqm multipurpose pavilion

Work has begun at BolognaFiere on the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion – a key milestone in the ongoing evolution of the Bologna exhibition district, and a future landmark for major international, sports and entertainment events.

Designed by MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, in collaboration with ARUP Italia and IM.TECH, the project marks a new step in the redevelopment plan for the exhibition area launched in 2016.

Innovative design and spaces

The new building will cover a surface area of 12,000 sqm, rise 25 meters high and accommodate up to 10,500 spectators. Its modular and flexible structure will ensure high energy efficiency and allow for multiple configurations.

The pavilion will feature a dynamic façade conceived as an urban lantern, capable of projecting images and communicating events to the city. Thanks to retractable telescopic stands, integrated services and reconfigurable spaces, the venue can be easily adapted to host a wide range of events.

Its location is strategic: it will rise on the site of the former Pavilion 35, between Piazza Aldo Moro – the link between the city center and the new TEK district – and Viale della Fiera. Accessibility will be guaranteed by direct connections to key public transport lines, including the future Red Tram Line, as well as to Bologna’s main road network.

A multipurpose venue

The construction of the pavilion fulfills the commitment made with EIMA, which will use the new space to expand its 2026 edition. Works are scheduled for completion by November next year, in time for the event.

The venue will be able to host trade shows, international congresses, large concerts and live performances, as well as high-profile sporting events – including national league and EuroLeague games of Virtus Segafredo Zanetti.

With an investment of over €70 million, the new pavilion represents a strategic step forward for BolognaFiere, further strengthening its position as a leading player in the European exhibition landscape.
