Unipol Hall takes shape: BolognaFiere’s multifunctional venue nears completion

The installation of the final roof beam marks the completion of structural works on the Unipol Hall, BolognaFiere’s new multifunctional venue, designed to host major events across a range of sectors.

A new venue for Bologna

Designed by MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, in collaboration with ARUP Italia and IM.TECH, the new Unipol Hall will host major international events, such as trade fairs, sporting events, concerts, shows and cultural events.

The venue will cover approximately 12,000 square metres, reach a height of 25 metres and accommodate up to 12,000 spectators. The project represents an investment of more than €75 million by BolognaFiere on the site of the former Hall 35, located between Viale della Fiera and Via Aldo Moro.

One of the venue’s key features will be its high degree of flexibility: mobile telescopic stands, integrated services, hospitality areas, VIP areas and a Sky Terrace will allow the spaces to be adapted to events of different types and sizes.

Easily accessible via Bologna’s public transport network and the main road and motorway connections, Unipol Hall has been designed with a waste-less approach and a focus on energy efficiency. It is one of the most significant projects within the wider redevelopment and development programme for the exhibition district launched in recent years.

Entering the final stages

Construction began on 25 June 2025 with the demolition of the former Hall 35. Just over a year after work began, the completion of the structure, in line with the project schedule, marks the start of a new operational phase. Work is currently underway to complete the building envelope, which will feature the external fabric cladding, alongside the installation of systems and internal and external finishing works.

Another key milestone will be the completion of the external fabric envelope. The large textile surface will help define the architectural identity of the building, while also providing a backdrop for projections and lighting content that, during events, can transform the structure into a true urban landmark for the city and the exhibition district.

The venue is expected to open in the coming months: Unipol Hall will represent another step in BolognaFiere’s journey towards an increasingly integrated and multifunctional exhibition district, bringing together trade fairs, conferences, sport, culture and entertainment and further strengthening Bologna’s appeal as a destination for major events.
